B EAST #10: THE FOTO ISSUE

Beastory is in the making as the New Europe’s provocative fashion/attitude glossy comes out with its TENTH Issue. Taking a step back from the outrageous RED issue, the FOTO edition goes back to the magazine’s initial vision of bringing the region up close and personal through strong, conceptual photography.

This historic issue has a much cleaner design, and includes pictorials from breakaway Republics, backstage porn shoots in Prague and revamped ‘Russian jock’ images. We also take on Vienna’s high-brow Lomography society, and distill our experience from the last ten issues into the “Ten Commandments of the B EAST.”

Breaking into a Breakaway Republic: Strong, intimate images from the Breakaway Republic of Transnistria from photo-journalists Marcell Nimführ and Kramar.

Forever Young: ‘ Phiscultura’ series by photographer Valery Katsuba, inspired by images from 19th century gyms in Czarist St. Petersburg.

Ten Commandments of the B EAST: Beastly advice for aspiring magazine publishers. A) Never take money from pornographers. B) Always allow crazy Finns to throw you into saunas…

The Dark Side of Lomography by Colin Wenger… Inside Vienna’s cult Lomography Society, which threatens it’s competitors with phrases such as “Our friend Putin in Russia does not like our business to be disturbed.” A quirky photographic club or something more sinister? Read the story to find out…

PLUS profiles of our favorite clickers, Pawel Fabjanski, Claudia Grassl, Natasha Gudermane and Slava Fillipov. The contributor’s list goes on… Azerbaijan’s Sitara Ibrahimova, Prague’s Jakub Stetka, Ukraine’s Dmitry Peretrutov and many more.

We have also updated and redesigned our Belly of the Beast city listings to bring you the east’s best bars, clubs, restaurants and chill-out spots.

PROMOTIONS: Our website www.beastnation.com launched in March and is already turning into a hip portal for Eastern Europe. We are now partnering with Barcelona’s wicked Sonar Music Festival, in addition to Bread&Butter and London Fashion Week. The issue will also be promoted through launch events in Berlin, St. Petersburg and Riga. This issue includes a list of hip summer festival in East Europe this summer, so see ya either at Serbia’s Exit or Poland’s Heineken Opener. Mags will be handed out at the Media Lounge of Barcelona’s Bread&Butter in January! Wicked, funky launch events are planned for Prague, Tallinn, Riga, Budapest & St. Petersburg (where Dr. Evil, who shot the cover resides) for this issue.
